A Group of ‘Behavioural Science’ Pranksters Solve Bicycle Congestion With A Duct Tape

From the Author: Nudging is a popular method for changing human behaviour in a subtle way. The situation at Keizer Karelplein Nijmegen has been annoying us for quite some time now, so we decided to put our nudging skills to the test. We managed to change the cyclists behaviour using only duct tape.

To prevent pollution, we removed the tape after filming. We have been missing it ever since ;-). We’d like to thank Van Rens Mobiliteit for helping us create a nudge that meets the Dutch guidelines for bike paths.

At Shift, we consult organisations about applying behaviour change techniques like nudging to improve traffic safety and sustainable behaviour. With this video, we wanted to prove that small changes could make a big difference.
